Favorites - Antique Finds

These are my Saturday antique finds.

I went to breakfast with my cousin and since she was by herself, we did a little bit of browsing.  The block of Main Street that we were on, has 3 antique stores.  I didn't make it to the 3rd store, but it was fun looking in the 2 stores.

After looking and buying, I want to decorate my house like my great grandma Hemo's house.  I guess it's a comfort thing.  All happy things happened there.  I'd stay there if I was sick and we would have get togethers there every weekend it seemed.

I love the platter with the spider mums. The blue and pink make it look so modern, but it was made in 1956.  I loved the vase and it was actually on sale.  I haven't picked out any flowers, but I may put some bright red poppies in it.  I'm on the search to find vintage Dick and Jane readers, this one is Alice and Jerry.  If you find a Dick and Jane book, or even their doggy Spot reader, grab it for me!  My aunt got me a new book of Dick and Jane, but I'm looking for the vintage readers.  The yellow ashtray is Frankoma.  Ashtrays are hard to come by.  I'll probably just use it as a catchall.  The metal measuring cup is like the ones that used to come in the flour sacks.  I used to have one but it got legs.

My Entryway Redo

My dining room doesn't have an "entryway."  Originally, the room was the living room and everyone ate in the kitchen.  My grandparents added on a den, so the living room became the dining room.  We've had a bad winter, so by the front door became the catch all of "stuff."  I put spray paint, paper to be recycled and seeds for my garden right there.  I also keep my keys and Jessi's leash there.  It was just becoming an eyesore.  I was also getting tired of letters getting piled up on the table.  The table is also a catch-all.

I bought a 14x14 frame from Walmart.  I may eventually spray paint it black satin but right now I'm going to leave it up.  I bought a Martha Stewart Home Office with Avery Wall Manager Accessory Board.  The board is really neat because you nail the back to the wall and then slip the cover on top of the back.  The back panel that you nail to the wall actually has a tiny level.  That is the neatest thing!  I'm always afraid that I'm going to hang something crooked.  I decided to get black since black goes with everything and won't be too distracting.  I also got the Wall Manager Inbox in black.  This will help to keep letters off of the table!  I also got two hooks to put my keys and Jessi's leash on.

I also decided to put the boot vase with silk forsythia and other branch blooms since it's almost Spring.  I also stuck some flowers in the cast iron pot after I took the picture.  The sign above the mirror needs more chalkboard paint, so I'll write a clever quote on it soon.

This little bit of organization will help me a lot!

The Pink Thumb - Where are you Spring?

Garlic

Celebrity Tomatoes

Tomatoes

8 Ball Zucchini

A Peanut
I think everyone around here is ready for Spring.  Someone said that this is the coldest winter in about 40 years. It has been so bitterly cold.  Here in Oklahoma, it gets warm and then drastically cold.  Right now it's about 7 degrees Fahrenheit and this weekend it might be warm.

Everybody is starting to plan their gardens.  Well, plan theirs since it is so cold. Mine is going to be simple this year. Last year, I planted mine too early and about lost half of my garden even though I had to cover the garden with buckets.  I'm going to plant tomatoes, onions, zucchini and peanuts.  Maybe a few other things might go in their. I also have 6 Apache thorn-less blackberry plants.

This last summer was their first time to produce berries. It was really fun to pick them off.  My little puppy, Jessi tried to eat the berries.  I had to pick them before she could get to them.  I'm going to order a few more.  The blackberry's that you order come as bareroot, with just the roots and the stem, which may be about a foot tall.  The plants from the store, actually come in a pot with soil and are about 1 1/2 feet with leaves.

I don't know what it is, but every time that I try to grow yellow squash, they turn up orange and hard.  They also don't get big.  It must be my soil.  I don't plant stuff that I know that won't grow.  We've grown corn before but it's so hard to pick it at the right time.

I'll probably also plant okra in the middle of the summer.  Last summer, I got busy and forgot to plant them.  They grow better when it's hot and it gets hot in Oklahoma.
